What is an Area Code?

These area codes divide different parts of a country or region, making it easier for telephone networks to route calls to the correct location.
The area code is an essential part of a phone number, and it can tell you a lot about where a call is coming from. In the United States, area codes were introduced in 1947 to help manage the growing demand for telephone lines.
What is the 318 Area Code?
The 318 area code is a telephone area code in the United States that serves a part of northwest Louisiana. It covers a large region, including the city of Shreveport, the third-largest city in Louisiana, as well as many smaller towns and rural areas.

History of the 318 Area Code
The 318 area code was introduced in 1999 as part of a split from the 504 area code. Before 1999, the entire state of Louisiana shared the 504 area code. However, as the population grew and more telephone numbers were needed, Louisiana was divided into smaller regions, each with its own area code.
The 318 area code was created to serve the northwestern region of Louisiana. This includes not only Shreveport but also several other important towns and cities in the region.
